KNITTING BOARDS

What is a knitting board?
A knitting board is a hand knitting tool that creates a double knit fabric - a two sided fabric that is finished on both sides. There is no backside. Compared to single knit with a knit side and a purl side, double knit creates the smooth knit side on both sides and the purl sides are inside facing each other. It is a much faster way to create double knit vs. two needle knitting. You can do your shaping by increasing and decreasing and your project stays right on your board. The knitting board is very versatile, and by changing your gauge, you can create many different looks, while using all types of yarn.
The projects you can create are endless:
* Sweaters-pullovers, turtlenecks, shaped sleeves and cuffs.
* Coats-button front, lined and unlined, hooded or with collars.
* Scarves and Hats-unusual sets with change of colors and stitch patterns.
* Home decor-beautiful rugs and wall hangings, afghans and pillows.
* Baby Items-Buntings, blankets, sweaters, and Booties.
* So much more.
The Process
The process of knitting on the knitting board is a simple weave and hook movement across 2 rows of needles, back and forth, from one board to the other. The pattern of the weaving will create the different stitches.
The advantages of using the knitting board:
* It's easy to learn for a beginner.
* It's less stress on the knitter's hands and wrists.
* It's less likely to drop a stitch since the knitting stays on the knitting board.
* It's easy for the knitter to keep track of where they stopped when laying the knitting aside. It will not fall off the board.
* It creates a double sided fabric, so there's no back side. This is especially important when creating items where both sides show and the knitter wants to add some color designs. No strings or knots to show-it's all inside.
* The knitting lays flat and does not curl on the edges, so it's easier to sew pieces together when knitting sweaters.
